About the Project
First published in 1978, ElfQuest is the longest-running independent fantasy graphic novel series in the USA, with more than 20 million comics, graphic novels and other publications in print.
We are seeking a strong mix of known talent both from general media/pop-culture and the anime/animation space, as well as excellent new voices. We would like to cast a wide net for potential talent, inclusive of ethnicities who are not traditionally represented as the heroes in Western fantasy storytelling.
All the Elves are pansexual and while the characters use gendered pronouns (he/him and she/her) their sense of gender identity is fluid. Therefore, we are interested in submissions from any person of any gender who resonates with a given character.
Production Team
Produced by Fred Greenhalgh and Jonathan Woodward, with Co-producer Casey Turner. Directed by Fred Greenhalgh (Dark Tome, Locke and Key, X-Files: Cold Cases).
This will be a remotely recorded project, meaning actors are responsible for either their own professional home studio or working with a suitable studio partner. When auditioning please record using your best set-up.
Recording Timeframe: June 1-15, 2021. Production schedule based in Eastern time but can accommodate performers across continental USA.
Wage rate: This project is operating under a SAG-AFTRA New Media contract with fee of $250/session (up to 4 hours/day) for ensemble performers + 19.5% P&H. Most performers will be needed for one or two sessions. Non-union performers will be considered.
How to Audition: Record an audition for any and all characters that resonate with you using the audition sides provided below. This is an “Audio movie” so we are looking for performances that feel naturalistic and convey a deep grasp of the character. It should sound like you are embodying the character, not just reading the words aloud.

Roles We’re Seeking:
TREESTUMP (he/him, any ethnicity): The oldest of the Wolfriders, yet still a ‘strapling’. A gruff, no-nonsense tribal elder. Good-humored and calming presence. Keeper of the tribe’s lore and able to provide counsel and consolation to his nephew CUTTER in his role as chief.
TreestumpNIGHTFALL (she/hers, any ethnicity): A true Wolfrider, feminine and ferocious. She is a cool-headed and precise hunter, and like all Wolfriders, intensely loyal. Lovemate to REDLANCE, Nightfall is “the sword, the spear, the arrow.” They are deeply devoted, but have not ‘found’ each other’s soul name. Chooses to stay with REDLANCE as he dies in the desert rather than leave him to the buzzards.
NightfallREDLANCE (he/him, any ethnicity): “the flower, the tree, the vine” and lifemate to NIGHTFALL. Redlance’s capture precipitated the chain of events that lead to the exodus from the Father Tree Holt. A master of soft counsel, he is no less dangerous than any of the other Wolfriders, but is more naturally a nurturer.
RedlanceSTRONGBOW (he/him, any ethnicity): Reserved, silent, serious, deadly. A deadly archer with a gift for magic, he is more likely to ‘send’ (communicate through magical thought-speak) than talk. Strongbow has intense values and is a proud father and lifemate. Loyal, but unafraid of challenging his chief when he feels like it.
StrongbowMOONSHADE (she/her, any ethnicity): A maker: tanner, weaver, and artisan. Devoted lifemate to STRONGBOW who has been loyal and devoted even when she disagrees with him. Though she errs towards peace-making she’s not afraid to speak her mind when needed.
MoonshadeSCOUTER (he/him, any ethnicity): The son to CLEARBROOK and ONE-EYE, known for his sharp vision, but also his steadfast, loyal, and gallant nature. Should sound youthful but not a child.
ScouterDEWSHINE (she/her, any ethnicity): Swift and graceful, she is the most agile and free-spirited of the Wolfriders.
DewshineSUN-TOUCHER (he/him, Black and/or Indigenous): Father of Leetah and elder of the Sun Folk. Lost his vision from staring at the sun, he gained “inner sight” that augments his wisdom and age. While Savah is the spiritual leader of the Sun Folk, he is their cultural one. Has a sense of humor that’s come with seeing a lot in his day.
Sun-ToucherTOORAH (she/her, Black and/or Indigenous): Skilled herbalist and soothing healer but without magic. Tries to help Rayek be more accepting to the Wolfriders. Mother to LEETAH and SHENSHEN. Lifemate to SUN TOUCHER.
ToorahSHENSHEN (she/her, Black and/or Indigenous): A flirtatious and frisky elf; LEETAH’s sister – a gossip and a flirt.
ShenShenPICKNOSE (he/him, any ethnicity): Grouchy, treacherous, and clever aide-de-camp to the troll king, GREYMUNG. PICKNOSE lures the Wolfriders down the long tunnel to the desert, and seals the tunnel after them.
